Why Garden Rooms Are Everywhere Right Now
Over the last few years, garden rooms have become increasingly popular - from a luxury add-on to a serious investment for many homeowners. With the price of homes continuing to increase, a garden room is an excellent way to add space and value to your home without the cost of moving or the hassle of an extension.
This blog explores why now might be the best time to invest in a garden room. If you want to find out more about how we build using timber frames, you can read more about that here.

What Can a Garden Room Actually Be Used For?
So, what can a new garden room be used for? Maybe you have a idea in mind or maybe you’re not sure what to do with all of the extra space you now have. Perhaps you need some extra space for when you’re working from home, or maybe a place to pursue the new hobby you’ve been thinking about getting into. Do your family need somewhere to stay when they visit, or do your children want a place to hang out with their friends? Are you into fitness but don’t have time to juggle work, family and getting to a gym?
One of the benefits of garden rooms is that most are fully insulated and wired with electrics. So whilst many people may picture a damp, spider-infested shed, the reality is a weather-proof, cosy space that can be used just like a new extension would be.
The possibilities are endless.
Not All Garden Rooms Are Built the Same
Although garden rooms can be a great investment that can add value to your home, not all are built to the same standard and quality so it’s important to do your research and know what you are looking out for. It’s also worth understanding exactly what’s included in the price and how payment is structured. A lower upfront cost doesn’t always reflect the final spend once everything is factored in.
Take a look at your local garden centre, and you will find an array of garden rooms that seem to be perfect for what you are looking for. However, if you take a closer look at what is included, you will tend to find many come as a flat pack with a set of instructions for you to assemble yourself. Whilst this may not seem particularly daunting if you are a hands-on person, it’s worth considering what else may need to be carried out yourself –for example, will there need to be groundworks carried out before? Failure to correctly prepare the site before erecting any building could result in issues further down the line, such as flooding or sinking. Consider the price you are looking at and what is actually included, as more often than not you will end up paying far more for a product that requires much more work.

How We Build Our Garden Rooms
At Elmtree, our garden rooms come with the whole package. From design to build we cover everything so that all you need to do is decide on how to decorate!
We take your design and build each panel individually in our workshop so that when we get to site, we fit and secure your garden room in just a few hours. Every timber frame garden room we produce is built to last, using locally sourced FSC timber and 100mm PIR insulation. This means that regardless of how you choose to use your garden room, it will be comfortable, energy-efficient, and built to last all year round.
We’re lucky to have worked on a wide range of garden rooms from accessible therapy rooms to stilted offices. You may have even seen someof our recent social media posts on our whole process, but if not, we recommend you check them out.
